It was the first day of the 2008 spring gobbler season. It was the first day of the 2008 spring gobbler season. Friends, Daryl and Fuzz setup a blind together on one side of the farm in Wythe County. I set up my blind on the other side. Fuzz had never killed a spring gobbler, so we hoped he would get a chance to take his first. Daryl and Fuzz set up within 75 yards of the roost location for about 10 birds. They could see the birds roosted after sun rise. Sadly, the birds came down and went the opposite direction of their blind. As the hours passed, we all saw and heard nothing. My location wasn’t any better, as I had a lot of wind blowing my blind and at one point I had to get out of my stand to restake it. As I was fixing the blind I jumped two turkeys that were coming into my blind from the back side. Well, the day was a bust and I packed my equipment and went back to the truck. Then I went to the blind site that Daryl and Fuzz were hunting out of. I got to their blind and they were walking around in the woods near a power line across the field from their blind. At around 11:15, they returned to the blind to find me in it waving at them to get back into the blind as I was hearing a turkey in the small patch of woods behind the blind calling. I had to wave at them to get their attention and we all crowded into the blind. We all heard one turkey call back at us one time. Then we began to see them coming our way through the woods! One gobbler stepped into the field, then another! Daryl said “Wouldn’t it be wild if we had a triple!” Well you now what happen next…. Another gobbler stepped into the field! We let Fuzz pick the turkey he intended to shoot, then myself, and Daryl took the last one. Fuzz counted to three and we all took a shot. Daryl and Fuzz’s gobblers were on the ground flopping and my turkey ran about ten feet stopped and look back to see what was wrong and I took a second shot and my gobbler was down! What a day! Fuzz takes his first spring gobbler and we all experienced our first triple! Fuzz, Myself, & Daryl
